I've been contemplating how to improve on the bicycle lately using electricity and solar. And then....

Elf 1.5 EV

...in one of those things that just makes you shake your head and do a double-take, it happened.  Today, I saw this at Organic Transit...

I am SMH because this thing is shaped exactly the way I was imagining a solar electric bike should look.  It's kinda eerie, really.  But, who knows, maybe I caught a fleeting glimpse of one somewhere (I get around) and it stuck to one of my thought ballons.  Otherwise, great minds think alike!

Anyways, since I've just had my dreams of a comfortable retirement shattered by an outfit with a great idea and a head start, I may as well say a little something about it.

The Elf is great because it's everthing you would expect it to be in a modern electric bicycle.  I haven't ridden one of course, heck I just thought of it in my brain this morning and by lunch time I'm staring at this thing with clumps of hair clenched in my fists.  I'd like to see one in person, ride it, think of what could have been.  Perhaps I will find a fine cycling establishment that carries this and go check it out.  Meanwhile, here's what Organic Transit has to say about their very smart copy of the bicycle I invented in my mind this morning...

The ELF is a solar and pedal hybrid vehicle powered by you and the sun. “The most efficient vehicle on the planet”, it is a revolution in transportation and gets the equivalent of 1800 MPG. Hand built in the USA, the ELF is legally a bicycle, so it can travel on bike paths, park on sidewalks and requires no gas, license, registration or insurance. It can travel up to 20 mph on electric power only and up to 30 mph when combined with pedaling. It can hold more than a dozen bags of groceries and can handle an amazing 350 lb. payload.
